Connect a cloud drive or online spreadsheet
Google Sheets, Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, Airtable and Notion. Authorise once, choose a file or a base, and the table follows it. One direction only — from the cloud into TableDI.
What is supported
| Source | What you choose | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Google Sheets | One online spreadsheet | One channel per worksheet |
| Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, Dropbox | One Excel or CSV file in the drive | Re-pulled when the file changes |
| Airtable | One table inside a base | |
| Notion | One database | Page bodies are not synced — only database properties |
Connecting
- Data Connections → New Connection at the top right of a table, and pick the icon.
- Connection Settings — clicking connect sends you to that service's login to authorise (Redirecting for Authentication...). You come back to TableDI with the connection created. The account you authorise has to be able to see the target file.
- Channel Settings — walk down the folder tree that appears: Select Folder or File, with < Back to go up. Drive-type sources take only Excel or CSV; anything else is refused with Please select Excel or CSV. Google Sheets asks for the spreadsheet and then the worksheet; Airtable and Notion ask for the base and the table. The chosen file shows under Select Data File:, and Select a Different File changes it.
- Date Selection → Data Binding — the same as any other connection.
Things to know
- The direction is cloud → TableDI. Edits you make here are not written back to the online spreadsheet. For that, see writing back to external systems.
- The first row of the online sheet is the header, exactly as in Upload Excel and CSV. A merged banner row breaks it — ask whoever maintains the sheet to leave row one for headers.
- Drive files are re-read in full each time. Fine for modest row counts; a file of tens of thousands of rows belongs in a database with a database connection instead.
- When authorisation expires or is revoked the status becomes Not Connected. Re-run Connection Settings; the channel and the table stay as they are.
- These services sign in overseas. On an unreliable connection the authorisation page may not load at all; try a different network.
