Your license and your backups

Written for TableDI 2.0.0 on macOS · updated 2026-09-11

TableDI 2 is free with no time limit; the lifetime license unlocks the rest, on one computer at a time. To activate, open Settings → Licence, paste your key into Licence key and click Activate — this step needs an internet connection. To switch computers, click Move to another machine on the old Mac first: it goes back to the free version, keeps all its data, and the key is free to activate on the new one. Backups are one file each: Settings → Backup → Back up now writes a .tdbk2 file with your jobs, their periods, results and rules, and Every week does it for you. A license for TableDI 0.0.9 doesn't activate TableDI 2.

What's free and what's lifetime

The lifetime version is $99 once · one machine, movable; see the pricing page. Your data stays on your machine in both.

Activate

  1. Open Settings in the sidebar and go to Licence.
  2. Paste your key into Licence key. It's four groups of eight letters and digits separated by dashes; paste all of it, dashes included.
  3. Click Activate.

When it works, Licence shows Lifetime · activated, and the lifetime features stop showing the lifetime card. Your key comes with your purchase; the Account page helps you find it again.

TableDI 2 says What to do
That key was not recognised Check for a typo, or use the key from your purchase.
This key is already on another machine Free it there under Settings › Move to another machine, then activate here.
This key no longer works Write to support. Your data is untouched.

A key for TableDI 0.0.9 doesn't activate TableDI 2.

Move to another machine

  1. On the old Mac: Settings → Licence → Move to another machine. This machine goes back to the free version and the key frees up. Your data is untouched. This needs an internet connection.
  2. On the new Mac: activate with the same key.

The license doesn't carry your jobs with it. To take them along, back up on the old Mac and restore on the new one (below). If the old Mac is gone before you could move the license, see Account or write to us.

Working offline

  • After activating, TableDI 2 checks the license about once every 30 days.
  • If a check can't get through, it keeps the lifetime version for 30 days after the last check that worked, shows Lifetime · last checked … days ago, and tries again every few hours.
  • After 30 days without a check that works, it goes back to the free version — Back to the free version — it will restore itself the next time you are online — and switches back by itself as soon as a check works.

Your jobs and data stay open throughout; only the lifetime features wait.

Back up

In Settings → Backup:

  • Back up now writes a file named like TableDI-2-20260911-0930.tdbk2 into your backup folder — Documents › TableDI 2 › Backups unless you've set another — and says Backed up to … when it's done.
  • Every week, on by default, makes one every Monday at 9:00. If the Mac was off or TableDI 2 wasn't open then, the backup runs the next time TableDI 2 is open.

A backup takes a few seconds, during which TableDI 2 accepts no changes, so let it finish before running a period.

What's in the file: your jobs, their periods and results, rules and versions, delivery settings, and TableDI 2's settings. What isn't: your AI key and your license, which you enter again on a new Mac. The file is an ordinary zip with a checksum for every file inside.

Restore

  1. Settings → Backup → Restore from a backup, and choose the .tdbk2 file.
  2. Confirm: The current data is backed up first, then replaced. The app restarts.

Before anything is replaced, every file in the backup is checked against its checksum; if one doesn't match, nothing is replaced. The data being replaced isn't deleted — it's set aside on your disk. After the restart, your jobs are back as they were in the backup.

A .tdbk file from TableDI 0.0.9 is a different format. Bring it in with Import from the old TableDI (.tdbk); see Bring your data from TableDI 0.0.9.

Moving to a new Mac, in order

  1. Old Mac: Back up now, then Move to another machine.
  2. New Mac: install TableDI 2, Restore from a backup, Activate, and paste your AI key again in Settings → AI if you use one.
  3. If a job's folder doesn't exist on the new Mac, pick that period's files on the preflight with Use a different file.
