Activate your license and move between computers

A license activates one computer at a time, and you move it yourself from inside the app. Here's the sequence, plus what to do about each error message.

Activate

  1. Open Desktop settings (the entry below Setting in the left sidebar, or Cmd+, on macOS / Ctrl+, on Windows) → License.
  2. Paste the key. It looks like XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX — paste the whole thing including the dashes.
  3. Activate. The engine restarts, and the paid features are on.

Your key arrives by email when you buy, and you can look it up again from your account page with the order number.

Moving to another computer

One license, one machine at a time — but the move is self-service and takes a minute.

  1. On the old computer: Desktop settings (the entry below Setting in the left sidebar, or Cmd+, on macOS / Ctrl+, on Windows) → LicenseDeactivate this computer. That machine drops back to the free tier; your data stays exactly where it was.
  2. On the new computer: paste the same key and activate.

Your tables don't travel with the license. To bring them, export a .tdbk backup on the old machine and import it on the new one — how to do that.

Old laptop died before you could deactivate? Write to us with the order number and we'll release it from our side. This isn't a trick question; it happens to everyone eventually.

What each error means

MessageWhat happenedWhat to do
We can't find that license key The key doesn't exist on our side — almost always a partial copy. Copy the whole key from the email, dashes included. If it still fails, send us the order number.
This license is active on another computer It's already activated somewhere. That's the design, not a fault. Deactivate on the other machine first. No longer have it? Write to us.
This license has expired A yearly license reached its end date. Renew from the buy page. Your data is untouched; the app returns to the free tier.
This license has been revoked Usually a refunded or charged-back order. If that's news to you, tell us — we'd rather fix a mistake than have you locked out.
That doesn't look like a license key The format is wrong — often a stray space or a smart quote from a chat app. Retype the last group by hand, or paste into a plain text editor first.
Can't reach the license server Activation needs one network round trip. A VPN, a corporate proxy or a firewall can block it. Try another network. Once activated, TableDI runs offline for as long as you like — it only re-checks occasionally.
Registered to another computer The license is valid but was activated on different hardware. A motherboard swap or a restored disk image can trigger this. Deactivate and reactivate. If the old machine is gone, write to us.

Working offline

Activation is the only step that needs a network. After that TableDI verifies the license locally and only re-checks in the background now and then. A long stretch offline is fine; an extremely long one eventually asks you to connect once to confirm the license is still valid.
